Joann Rogers

THE NUTS CLUB

The NUTS club began as the great idea of Joann Rogers and Harry Campbell. A club for those who are interested in the hobby of metal detecting and collecting Utah tokens.

The first meeting was held Jan 27th 1982

The Name. (Nation Utah Token Society - NUTS) Was created by Joann Rogers.

When we are out there digging in ghost towns, park city and eureka, then coming home all dusty and dirty, She thought that we are all a bunch of nuts  - everyone laughed, so that is how it all started. So NUTS it is!

The NUTS club logo (club flag and medals reverse)--- Was developed by Harry Campbell.

His design of the covered wagon pulled by oxen was selected from 35 different entries.

This design shows the depiction of the Utah pioneers persistence, hard work, determination and fortitude necessary to reach the promise land of Zion  (Salt Lake City Utah).

 More about Joann Rogers-

-          Started detecting 41 years ago.

-          Her first love is in the History and research of her finds.

-          Helped Harry Campbell do rubbings for his Utah Token book.

-          Prize winning collection of poison bottles.

-          She found mercury dimes the most out metal detecting.

-          She loves the excitement and thrill of finding a coin, marble, or token while screening.

-          Her fond memories include going on club hunting outings to ghost towns with her husband George and close friends from the club.

-          Her best finds include her husband George, friends from the NUTS club, Arcade token from Eureka, 1882 cc  Morgan silver dollar from Eureka, and other great memories from 41 years of metal detecting.

-           Advice to the NUTS club;

Kindness, friendship and fun will build a great club.

Too much competition and backbiting will destroy it.

Thanks Joann  ----- From all of us NUTS !!!!!!

BRIAN D. JESSOP

May 4, 1948 to March 27, 2009

With sorrowed hearts we have lost one of our own. As you may already know Brian Dale Jessop ďPopĒ has passed away on March 27, 2009.

Brian has been the NUTS club Wagon Master for many years. He has been doing a fantastic job of purchasing drawing items and conducting the drawing at each monthly meeting. We all have been blessed to know such a kind, generous man as Brian.

As I mentioned at the March meeting the greatest treasure we all will ever find in life is our family and friends. Knowing Brian as a friend is one of those greatest treasures we will have in our lives.

Brianís family has asked that in lieu of flowers that donations would gratefully be accepted to help with funeral costs. The NUTS club is planning to present Brianís wife and family with a special gift honoring Brianís life and selfless service to the N.U.T.S club along with any monetary donations the club members would like to donate on the clubs behalf. If you would like to donate money to the NUTS club monetary gift to Brianís family please send it to the NUTS mailing address indicating Ďfor Brian Jessop Familyí and we will present it to the family on behalf of the NUTS club members.

We will be presenting this to Brianís family Wednesday April 1, 2009 after the funeral. If you want to contribute please let Eldon, Mary, Kris or myself know so that we can give them the money before we receive it.

Thanks everyone for your kindness, generosity and friendship.
